Message from Principal –

It is indeed my proud privilege to introduce Vijay Mahantesh Vidya Vardhak Sangh’s SVM Ayurvedic Medical College and P.G. Centre, Ilkal, as one of the leading institutions dedicated to the promotion and advancement of Ayurveda. Since its establishment in 1992, the college has consistently strived towards academic excellence and has produced many outstanding practitioners in the field of Ayurvedic medicine.

At the time of its inception, the institution was affiliated with Karnataka University, Dharwad, which granted affiliation for the degree programme. Subsequently, the affiliation was transferred to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Karnataka, Bengaluru, under which the institution continues to offer the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (B.A.M.S.) programme.

Our college offers an Undergraduate programme with an intake capacity of 60 students and Postgraduate (M.D./M.S.) courses in six specialties, namely Kayachikitsa, Panchakarma, Shalakya Tantra, Shalya Tantra, Prasooti Tantra and Stree Roga, and Samhita Siddhanta. The primary aim of the B.A.M.S. programme at our institution is to produce competent, compassionate, and socially responsible Ayurvedic physicians who can serve humanity through the timeless wisdom of Ayurveda.

Ayurvedic education at our college emphasizes a holistic understanding of the human body, health, and disease. According to Ayurvedic principles, disease is considered a state of imbalance of the Doshas, and restoration of health is achieved through appropriate diet, lifestyle modifications, and therapeutic interventions.

The curriculum includes the study of human anatomy, physiology, Ayurvedic philosophy, clinical medicine, pharmaceutics, diagnosis, and disease management. Students are trained in various branches such as Kayachikitsa (Medicine), Shalya Tantra (Surgery), Shalakya Tantra (Eye and ENT), Prasuti Tantra and Stree Roga (Gynecology and Obstetrics), Kaumarabhritya (Pediatrics), and Panchakarma, thereby integrating classical Ayurvedic knowledge with modern scientific understanding.

With the dedication of our faculty, the enthusiasm of our students, and the unwavering support of the management, the institution continues to progress steadily towards excellence in education, research, and patient care.

We remain deeply grateful for the inspiration and blessings of Param Pujya Mahant Swamiji and Param Pujya Guru Mahant Swamiji, whose guidance continues to inspire and motivate us in our mission.

I am confident that, with their blessings and the collective efforts of our academic community, our college will continue to carve a distinct place for itself in the field of Ayurveda at both national and global levels.
